Dal Tadka

A simple tadka/tempering transforms a comforting bowl of dal into something truly special.

Serves: 2-3

Time: 10 minutes


Ingredients


1 pack (250 g) Aahaar Dal Tadka

300 ml water

1 tbsp oil or ghee

1 tsp cumin seeds

3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

1 tbsp fresh ginger, finely chopped

1 dried red chilli

Fresh coriander chopped

Salt to taste



Method


  1. Heat oil or ghee in a saucepan.

  2. Add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle.

  3. Add garlic, ginger and dried red chilli.

  4. Cook for 1–2 minutes until the garlic turns lightly golden.

  5. Pour in the Aahaar Dal Tadka.

  6. Add water and stir well.

  7. Season with salt if needed.

  8. Simmer gently for 3–4 minutes.

  9. Finish with fresh coriander.

  10. Serve with basmati rice, naan or rotis

Tip:

  • For an extra layer of flavour, add a small knob of butter just before serving.
